- Summary
- Charlotte Graham was at the center of the most famous kidnapping in Chicago history: it took four years for a task force of FBI and local cops find her less than three miles from her home, in a place she'd been the entire time, haunts them. Charlotte's never spoken about the kidnapping, and after sixteen years she's moved away, changed her identity, and rebuilt her life. But when a reporter begins writing a book on the crime, Charlotte finds herself forced to return to the city as she struggles between two options: stay mute and hope the reporter doesn't find the full truth, or break her silence about what happened--a silence which is the only thing protecting her family. Bryce Bishop, introduced to Charlotte by the Chicago FBI director as a purchase liaison for some coins she's selling from her grandfather's estate, knows none of this at first. But the more he gets to know Charlotte, the more interested he becomes--despite the fact that Charlotte's decided to be single for life and willing to forego a huge inheritance to keep her privacy. She's not giving him much of an opening to work with. Charlotte wants to trust him; in fact, she needs to tell Bryce what happened, because a crime the police thought was solved has only opened another chapter.
